‘What Credit Crunch?’ say council bosses!

April 6, 2009

Research by The Tax Payers’ Alliance shows that the number of council bosses earning more than £100,000 a year had soared by 27% since last year, with several chief executives on packages worth more than twice that.

Alliance policy analyst Maria Fort said…

“The fact that executives who have overseen increases in council tax, cuts in services and major policy failures are getting ever more generously rewarded is frustrating for taxpayers who are struggling to make ends meet. […] In too many town halls there is a culture of rewarding failure. Councils must start tightening their belts – we’re in a recession and many of these rewards are financially unsustainable and morally indefensible.”

Doncaster, our home town, is officially a ONE STAR COUNCIL, but we still have to pay full price for the constant failures of the council. The man responsible for this, Paul Hart, has been receiving a six figure salary for years. During 06/07 – whist acting as interim manager for sacked bully, Susan Law (who was paid over £137,000 annually and received a £120,000 pay-off) – he was paid £141,574 . Hart and arch twat Mayor Martin Winter share joint responsibility for the deaths of seven children due to the shortfalls of Doncaster Child Services, yet both of these men are still enjoying their obscene salaries. Not only should they resign (Winter has said he will not stand for Mayor again – how very big of him), they should be forced to pay back their vile, unearned salaries. It’s time to bring down the fat cats!

What the council paid out in allowances and wages 2007-08

£325 million was used to pay staff wages and expenses.

229 council employees earned more than £50,000 in 2007-08.

Of these, six earned more than £100,000 and the two highest earners pocketed more than £160,000 each. By comparison, just ten people at the council earned more than £50,000 in 1996-97.

Council members, including the mayor, claimed allowances totalling £1,070,848.

By far the highest earner among politicians was mayor Martin Winter, with £72,464. Second highest was Labour’s Margaret Ward – at that time the borough’s Deputy Mayor – who earned £42,283, and the third highest earner was Coun Barbara Hoyle (Conservative), who claimed a total of £34,656.
