MP’s porn payment is ‘fair and reasonable’!

April 7, 2009

Greedy bugger and home secretary, Jacqui Smith, has dared to try and defend her money grabbing ways. She has said…

“What I claim is what I think are fair and reasonable expenses for that fact I have to live in two houses… it’s the nature of the job of being an MP that they have to live in two houses.”

Apparently it is the nature of the job to claim for a flat screen TV, scatter cushions, a barbecue, a patio heater, a toothbrush holder, a plug, her husbands porn, a cuddly toy (OK, we made that one up, but it was beginning to sound a bit like ‘The Generation Game’) – all with public money.

The Chartists fought hard won battles to make parliament a fairer place for the people; one of their demands was payment for MPs  in the hope that the poor would have true representation in government. Now the MPs have more money than the rest of us and the poor are still not represented in government!

When it comes to government we’re with Henry David Thoreau

I HEARTILY ACCEPT the motto, — “That government is best which governs least”; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe, — “That government is best which governs not at all”; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have. Government is at best but an expedient; but most governments are usually, and all governments are sometimes, inexpedient. The objections which have been brought against a standing army, and they are many and weighty, and deserve to prevail, may also at last be brought against a standing government. The standing army is only an arm of the standing government. The government itself, which is only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will, is equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it.
