Anarchy in a Nutshell

March 27, 2010

Mr Turpin of Tidings’ fame recently paid a visit to Barnsdale Forest and left the latest edition of Dodgem Logic as a parting gift.

In the current issue (issue 2) the wonderful Mr Alan Moore hits the nail on the head when it comes to Anarchy in the UK and the work that needs to be done to counter the years of lies, fear and misinformation that tarnish the beautiful idea. We couldn’t find a version on the interweb so we’re currently working on a project to distribute the full article as widely as possible. But for now here’s a taster from the man himself…

People like Alan or Tom Hodgkinson (whose 2006 book, ‘How to be Free‘, remains an immensely entertaining introduction to a whole range of libertarian ideas) manage to develop and promote anarchist ideals without resorting to clichés, dogma or machismo. This is especially important because the mainstream media is all too willing to offer up a distorted view of anarchy (i.e. journalists calling the situation in places like Somalia ‘Anarchy’, when the truth is that Somali’s suffer because they have too many ‘leaders’ all fighting for control of limited resources; or fictional portrayals of out-and-out control-freaks like The Dark Knight’s  ‘Joker’ claiming to be anarchists).

Anarchist philosophy is based on reasoned, often meticulously  scientific, observations of the real world. And, as Alan’s article shows, its theories have proved workable throughout history. As Edward Abbey famously observed…

“Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners.”

N.B. Dodgem  Logic is available directly from their website (which unfortunately loads very slowly on old, FOSS hacked computers like ours 😦 ) or from Forbidden Planet.

Re: obtaining Doggem Logic from Forbidden Planet. I wouldn’t bother. It took em over 2 months to deliver the No.1 issue! Try and get it direct from D. Logic website.
