RBS boast half year profits of £1.1 Billion while schools, hospitals and universities face closure

Not so very long ago the UK government gave the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) approx £45 billion from the public purse. £45 billion equates to over a quarter of the national deficit which is currently being used as an excuse for the most drastic and devastating round of public spending cuts since the second world war. Ultimately the proposed cuts threaten the welfare of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the UK, but hey, as long as the bankers are secure then it was worth it, right?
£45 billion bought the UK public an 84% share in RBS, but the public will see none of the £1.1 billion half-year profits that RBS has recently announced (a tiny percentage of that profit would rebuild our local comprehensive school which burnt down last year, but now will not be rebuilt thanks to the cuts). The so called ‘bail out’ was simply a scam that ensured banking losses would be socialised, once the banks are back in the red – which is happening surprisingly quickly – the mechanisms are in place to ensure all profits will be privatised; the control of currency ensures that the rich get richer and the poor foot the bill – THIS IS THE TRUE NATURE OF GOVERNMENT.
On Sunday 3rd October there will be a ‘DAY OF RAGE’ outside the Tory party conference in Birmingham to protest against the cuts. Anyone who cares about the cuts and the ‘Great Banker Blag’ should get down to Brum to kick off a national militant campaign of resistance.
As for the banks maybe some latter-day Robin Hood will come along to save the day…

Tories Attack Yet ANOTHER Generation of Doncastrians

The Crowalition Grovelment (a mixture of Tories and Not-So-Nasty-Tories) have stopped the funding required for much-needed school building improvements for 22 of Doncaster’s schools. Including – believe it or not – this one…
Campsmount Technology College was completely gutted by fire last year. Against the odds the school and local villages pulled together to provide vital education needs. Community centres, youth clubs, private buildings, etc., were all used as class rooms until a temporary structure was ready nearer the former school site. The kids have been using this temporary structure ever since.
Nearly 80% of kids attending Campsmount are from underprivileged backgrounds. Their families live in the former mining communities that have been in economic decline since the Tories successfully decimated the mining industry 25 years ago. Despite the areas economic problems Campsmount was a real success story, the headmaster, Andrew Sprakes, had really turned things around and the kids had begun to believe in themselves once again.
But thanks to the greed of bankers the government is now consolidating its assets solely to protect the interests of Middle England – for whom the government (all government) really works. We’ve talked before about government’s sole purpose of privatising gains and socialising losses, well here it is in full effect. The money saved by abandoning vital building projects will be pumped into their ‘Free Schools’ project which will undoubtedly favour middle class children.
Effectively the ‘cuts’ are the mechanism by which government will rob from the poor and give to the rich. We need to start reversing the process.

…fair for who, the BANKS?
The millionaire chancellor – who still owes £55,000 to the public purse for fiddling expenses – is expected to freeze public sector pay, slash welfare benefits and increase taxes, possibly including VAT.
All this to pay off a £155bn deficit, which sounds like a huge amount until you remember that the public bailed out the banks to the tune of £500bn – 100 times the amount needed to end child poverty in the UK.
The Government and the Banks exist as part of the same system, which is little more than a long-con designed to privatise profit and publicise loss. The coalition government slotted together so nicely because ALL politicians are playing for the same team – the rich.
Isn’t it time for something new?..

A Very ‘Moderate’ Murder Plot

Mark Collett - definitely NOT a fascist.
The BNP like to portray themselves as a ‘moderate’ political party that has left it’s violent street-fighting roots in the past. But it seems that 29 yr old Sheffield Brightside candidate, Mark Collett, hasn’t quite got the message. Key BNP members have been summoned to a meeting tomorrow to discuss “urgent organisational matters” after BNP leader Prick Gri££in and his vile colleagues made statements to the police which resulted in Collett being detained by Humberside police on Thursday.
Collet, the BNP’s ‘publicity director’, has been released on bail pending further inquiries, but it is understood that the BNP have suggested that Mr Collett was plotting to kill Nick Gri££in – Griffin and Terreblanche in one week, wouldn’t that have been news worth celebrating? 🙂

With politicians being absolute back-stabbing scumbags, and right-wing politicians being the worst of all, we shouldn’t really be surprised to find that there’s a lot more to these allegations than meets the eye. We don’t doubt that a nazi like Collett is capable of murder, but the whole incident seems to have been kick- started by rumours of “alleged financial irregularities”. Didn’t a poor disillusioned nutter like Collett realise that the BNP exists solely to line Prick Gri££in’s pockets? Did he turn against his fuhrer – like Tom Cruise in Valkyrie – when he realised the truth? Or was it Collett who was caught with his fingers in the fascist-piggy bank?
We’ll probably never know, and to be honest we really don’t care. Though it’s interesting to see that the BNP really have become more like the usual mainstream political parties – i.e. they’re a bunch of greedy, devious, self-serving, corrupt bastards, just like everyone else in Westminster 😉

Fat cat pay is usually justified by that old chestnut, “if you want the best person for the job you have to pay for it.” Unfortunately all the evidence shows that this is total crap. The bankers who led us to recession were (and remain…) totally overpaid. The politicians who allowed it to happen were over paid and still felt the need to fiddle their expenses. The CEO’s of the corporations that profit from human suffering and environmental degradation are all doing very nicely thank you very much. And 9 people who work for one of the worst councils in England are being paid over £100,000 per annum for their utter incompetence. Fat cats indeed…
Sickeningly large pay packets do not a competent person make. If we want the results we deserve from people in powerful jobs then their then pay must be performance related and public servants must be made 100% accountable for their actions – with mechanisms in place to make it easier to remove those who consistently fail the public (without rewarding them for their failure with compensation payouts – as happened with various incompetent former DMBC employees).

Scumbag arms dealers, BAE Systems, have announced their intentions to set up an air training academy in Doncaster (they probably heard how lenient the Doncaster authorities are with other arms dealing companies). These multi-national, multi-billion, out of control, blood-money-men have moved into the £5 million ‘Hangar 3’ at Doncaster/Sheffield Robin Hood Airport. BAE claim that over the next five years the aviation training centre will train 500 apprentices from across the country to become qualified aircraft technicians.
This sounds rather innocent, but BAE Systems is not the British Aerospace of old (not that they were really much better in practice). As Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) say…
BAE Systems, the company that was British Aerospace before it became too ‘global’ for ‘British’, is the world’s third largest arms producer. It makes fighter aircraft, warships, tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery systems, missiles, munitions and much more. Its only significant non-military business, Airbus, was sold off in 2006.
These arms are sold indiscriminately around the world and the company thrives on insecurity. Its 2005 Annual Report candidly states that “New threats and conflict arenas are placing unprecedented demands on military forces and presenting BAE Systems with new challenges and opportunities…”.
Not that this fazes Mike Morton, the director of Robin Hood Airport, who reckons: “The academy is another brilliant asset for young people in Doncaster, who can now benefit from the highest quality aircraft engineering training, which perhaps may have been unattainable otherwise.”
Which echoes Peel Holding’s lie that the airport would create 6000 local jobs. Like the airport itself, the academy will have a minimal impact – if any – on Doncaster’s communities (thought we’re pretty sure it will line the pockets of the usual suspects in local government and business community).

We’re used to toy manufacturers and the media creating a demand (echoes of Lorraine Kelly saying “and this year’s Top Ten Toys are…”) and then failing to supply so that they can charge extortionate prices for unimaginative pieces of plastic. But in recent years things have gotten a whole lot worse thanks to a new breed of secondary abusers muscling in to make things even harder for parents.
Thousands of unscrupulous Ebay traders make a small fortune by buying up this years favourite toys and then selling them for a tidy profit. For instance, a Star Wars Lego toy that retails at the already ridiculous price of £75 has been bought up by Ebay con-men (making it difficult for genuine customers to buy them legitimately) and is being sold for £115 + postage. And people are actually paying these bastards for the privilege!
We’re anti-capitalist, anti-CONsumerist, anarchists, but we’re also low paid working class parents. We know the immense social pressures that parents are under, but if people pay these Ebay parasites then the problem will only get worse.
We’d love to be the kind of parents who can say to their kids “Right, this year we’re going to make all our prezzies from bits of driftwood and we’re gonna dumpster dive for a turkey.”, but we’re not. What we can do though is explain to our kids why it is that certain nasty people are very, very greedy and how this means that other people don’t get their fair share of things. In the long run we’d be doing them a favour. We have to ask ourselves why it is that we’re prepared to give our children everything but the truth.
We have to fight back against the Ebay parasites – it’s easy, don’t give them your money. Then we need to start on the rip-off toy manufacturers!
*On a political note Ebay is the best illustration there is to the fact that free market libertarians and, so called, anarcho-capitalists are totally wrong. The myth of self-regulating market forces falls to pieces in this hideous micro-economic experiment – the market, as usual, becomes manipulated by greedy little freaks who have no concept of ethics of fairness.
